University of Tampa Rolls Out Blockbuster Express

In what seems to now be a daily occurrence, another University has rolled out a Blockbuster Express Kiosk. Today it was announced that the University of Tampa has rolled out a kiosk in the Vaughn Center. Like the other University roll outs, a portion of the proceeds go back to the school to use in whatever fund they choose. University of Tampa officials say that they will use the proceeds gained off a profit share on the kiosks in their Scholarship funds.

University of Missouri (Mizzou) Launches Blockbuster Express Kiosks

Mizzou just announced the availability of a Blockbuster Express Kiosk in the Student Union (located next to the ATM). Like the University of Hartford which announced availability earlier this year, the University of Missouri hopes to both generate some additional revenue as well as provide some additional resources for student life.

NCR selects Duluth, GA for its worldwide headquarters campus and Columbus, GA for a new North American manufacturing plant

Decision builds on global Center of Excellence for its worldwide customer services business in Peachtree City

DAYTON, Ohio – NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) announced today a major investment in innovation and people that will lead to the creation of 2,000 additional jobs in the State of Georgia as a result of a new global self-service innovation headquarters and a state-of-the-art manufacturing site for the company’s next generation NCR SelfServ™ ATM family.

NCR’s latest investment follows its announcement last October that it would establish a global Center of Excellence for its worldwide customer services business in Peachtree City, creating 916 jobs. NCR’s retail line of business is already based in Duluth, GA.

NCR decided to create a single innovation hub for its worldwide headquarters in Georgia after extensive analysis of potential US locations, using independent data on the available workforce, infrastructure, financial incentives and government tax structures.

Approximately 1,250 additional jobs will be created at NCR’s existing facility in Duluth, GA, by centralizing business strategy, technology development and support functions into a single US campus from several offices, including NCR’s current worldwide headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. NCR’s operations in Dayton will continue to include its data center and support for local customers.

Approximately 870 jobs will be created at a new Columbus, GA site, which NCR will use to manufacture advanced ATMs, including intelligent deposit, to drive its leadership in the North America market. NCR is to begin recruiting immediately for its manufacturing plant. The City of Columbus plans to use stimulus funding, provided by the Economic Development Authority, to purchase the building for the plant, which will be leased back by NCR.

NCR Corporation Announced Alex C. Camara as VP and GM of NCR Entertainment Solutions

DAYTON, Ohio – (Business Wire) NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) announced today that Alex C. Camara has joined the company as vice president and general manager of NCR Entertainment Solutions. In his new role, Camara will lead NCR’s entertainment business, which includes its Blockbuster Express DVD rental operations.

Camara joins NCR from Coinstar, Inc, where he served for ten years including most recently as senior vice president and general manager of Coinstar Coin and Entertainment. In that role, he consistently grew revenues and profits in Coinstar’s largest business unit. Camara has more than 25 years of leadership experience in operations, sales, supply chain, business development and general management from the retail industry and self-service technology.

NCR Acquires North America’s Second Largest DVD Kiosk Operator

NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) announced today that it has purchased the remaining equity in TNR Holdings Corp., the second largest DVD kiosk operator in North America, in order to expand the NCR SelfServ™ Entertainment portfolio across North America under the Blockbuster Express brand. NCR had been a minority stakeholder in the company since a deal in the Summer of 2008.

TNR Holdings Corp, based in Houston TX and known as The New Release, operates over 2,500 kiosks under the brands MovieCube™ and The New Release™ in supermarkets and grocery stores throughout North America. NCR will leverage TNR’s operator skills and retail merchandising experience as it accelerates the installation of state-of-the-art Blockbuster Express branded DVD rental kiosks in retail locations such as supermarkets and convenience stores.

It will be interesting to see how this affects Blockbuster as they go through negotiations to avoid bankruptcy and store closures. Blockbuster has been hit hard recently by media reports that they had retained counsel to work through potential bankruptcy issues.
